The purpose of ASU of WAC shall be to provide a safe place for African students attending Washington College. To promote unity and mutual understanding among its members and the Washington College community. To promote cultural and social exchanges in conjunction with other organizations with common goals in and outside the College. To create and promote a forum that will allow the exchange of ideas on issues affecting Africa and the diaspora. To stimulate African student involvement in the College's affairs.

Cleopatra's Sisters is a club of sisterhood and service for women, particularly women of color and of different cultures, but not exclusive to these groups, here on campus. The eight principles of the Cleopatra's Sisters are: sisterhood, love, respect, patience, endurance, peace, confidence, and unity. These principles empower not only our sisters, but also our greater society.

We are the Disc Golf Club for Washington College. Disc golf is structured so that it emphasizes honesty and builds character in individuals. We believe that every person should have an opportunity to experience true sportsmanship in a team-oriented environment. Therefore, we are dedicated to introducing, promoting and teaching players about the sport of disc golf. Our program ensures that disc golf is played according to the rules of the sport and with a positive attitude. We hope to spread the word about this sport so that everyone may have an opportunity to participate.

Mission Statement:
The WAC Democrats' mission is to get college students and members of the WC community more active and involved in politics for the future of the United States. The Washington College Democrats, or commonly referred to as the WAC Dems, is the organization for political advocacy, information, and democratic advancement on campus devoted to spreading overall political education and awareness. Founded in the Spring of April 1950, the Washington College Democrats hope to provide community members with an understanding of the political process, current events and policies that affect the average citizen of the United States, as well as the world. As an organization, we seek to discuss pragmatic politics that will ensure civil liberties, human rights, national security, and equal opportunities for every citizen and advocate policies that will shape a better future for generations to come.

Mission Statement: As conservatives, we seek to discuss conservative ideology within our group, debate with others on campus on important political issues and to help elect conservative representatives to our local, state and federal offices in Maryland. We work closely with elected officials to play our role in improving the State of Maryland, and we engage in civil and thought provoking discourse throughout the year to improve ourselves. We are here to promote composting, zero waste processes, and sustainability at Washington College!

Our official mission statement: The Washington College Composting Team was created to both educate students about the benefits of composting, which includes reducing costs and CO2 emissions created by the campus, and to foster a culture of sustainability and eco-awareness through different events and activities.

The International Studies Council / Model United Nations team is an organization for undergraduate students that are either interested in international issues or are majoring in fields relevant to international affairs. Members participate in informative classes on contemporary global matters, partake in meaningful debate at our simulations, and engage in public speaking for those that try out for our traveling team. We function both as a club and as a class, with the class being hosted by the team's advisor Professor Reiling, and the club being hosted by elected members of the international studies council.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF JOINING THE NSLS AND WHAT DOES MY MEMBERSHIP FEE COVER?
As explained on the membership application, once you have completed the steps to become an official member of the NSLS, your membership items are sent to your local chapter leaders to present to you during the induction ceremony. Your membership kit includes a t-shirt, certificate, car decal, pin, and plaque (if purchased during registration).

When you join some organizations, the information you receive focuses on the material, tangible benefits you receive from membership. The items in your membership kit are nice side benefits, but are definitely not the real value you gain from achieving membership in The National Society of Leadership and Success.

HISTORY

The Elm is a weekly newspaper published by and for the students of Washington College. Since its start in 1930, The Elm has been a resource for campus news and student opinion. The Elm prints about 24 issues a year, depending on budgetary restraints.

The newspaper is a tabloid-style, 12-page publication with five content sections: News, Opinion, Student Life, Lifestyle, and Sports. The staff is comprised of about 10 editors and managers as well as contributing writers and photographers, all of whom attend the College full time along with editing and writing for The Elm.
