The emphasis in this international sociology honor society is on service and scholarship. Upperclass students majoring or minoring in sociology are eligible if they have taken at least four courses in sociology at Washington College, maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 as well as a GPA of 3.0 in their sociology coursework, and are in the upper 35% of their class.

Graduating senior Marketing minors with a minimum overall GPA of 3.25 are eligible for initiation into Alpha Mu Alpha, the national marketing honorary for qualified undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral marketing students, as well as marketing faculty.

Eligible seniors will be invited to accept this honorary in the latter half of their final semester by the Director of the Minor, who administers the honorary for WAC.

Welcome to Bike Share! This program was set up by the SGA as a way for students to have FREE access to bicycles while the school year is in session. Once registered for the program, students will have access to the bike fleet for the whole semester. The bikes must be checked back in once a week for maintenance checks and redistribution. Each comes with a bike lock and key to help ensure the safety of the bikes.

The CES mission recognizes that we live in a world with increasing environmental and related social problems that are rapidly reaching crisis levels. We need to work toward solving these problems ourselves, but we especially need a new generation of creative, solution-oriented leaders.

THE GAMMA ETA CHAPTER
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY IN CHEMISTRY AT WASHINGTON COLLEGE

At Washington College, the Gamma Eta Chapter of Gamma Sigma Epsilon, National Honor Society in Chemistry, is to recognize outstanding students demonstrating exceptional ability and interest in the field of chemistry. The goal is to promote scholarship and professionalism and the overall welfare of its members, school, and community, as well as participate in outreach and community service activities.
Gamma Eta insures that the policies and practices pertaining to the membership of our organization do not discriminate based on sex, race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, marital status, handicap, age, and lifestyle.
Candidates for membership in the Chapter will have met the following requirements:
a. Have completed at least 20 hours of chemistry courses at Washington College.
b. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.3 in all chemistry courses and an overall GPA of at least 3.2.
Transfer students shall be eligible for membership after one semester at Washington College in which they have taken at least one chemistry course, if they also meet the requirements for membership.
Outstanding alumni and faculty who have made a positive impact on the Chapter, department, or the field of chemistry may be elected to membership as Honorary Members.

Located in the lower level of Miller Library, our suite has three unique spaces.

The Multimedia Production Center has dedicated workstations with the latest cutting edge industry software. Our specialized hardware and loaner pool of DSLRs, camcorders, and more are free to use for class assignments or personal projects alike.

Our Makerspace extends your design and creative expression from the digital to the physical world with tools like our 3D printers, a laser cutter, and electronics prototyping equipment.

The Studio combines a voice recording workstation with our custom One Button Studio kiosk, giving you the ability to record studio quality audio and video for your class assignments, presentation practice, or even your own YouTube channel.

You’ll see the IDEAWORKS staff in some of your classes. It could be a single in-class session, multiple sessions including time in the Innovation Suite, and even one-on-one sessions with individuals and small groups to give you the personalized instruction and support you need to be successful. We also support students who want to explore independent academic research or enhance their Senior Capstone Experience.

Open to students of all majors, IDEAWORKS also leads a wide variety of workshops such as 3D design and printing, Astrophotography, Electronics prototyping, Sculpture for Humans, Designing and Building BattleBots, and even Underwater Photography, to name a few. You’re sure to find engaging experiences and skills that translate to your academic and professional careers.

IDEAWORKS is also home to some student clubs, like the Photography Club and the Makers Union. These student driven clubs produce some amazing projects, such as a recent studio lighting workshop collaboration between the Photography Club and the Men’s Basketball team. The Makers Union designs and builds sophisticated solar/electric boats to race in the annual Wye River Electric Boat Marathon (where our students are proud to have won first place in their category this past year.)

In addition to our full time staff, IDEAWORKS employs a team of student consultants to help you with things like troubleshooting a software problem, lending you camera gear, or advising various approaches to tackle your complex projects. The National Honor Society for Dance Arts™ (NHSDA) is a program of the National Dance Education Organization, created to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance in public and private schools in K-12 education, dance studios, cultural/community centers, performing arts organizations, and post-secondary education. The NHSDA offers three levels of induction: The Junior Program for grades 6-8, The Secondary Program for grades 9-12, and The Collegiate Program for students in college or university dance programs. Establishing an NHSDA chapter in your school is one very important way that you can honor your students and help advance the field of dance education.

The local chapter of the national history honor society, Phi Alpha Theta sponsors presentations, discussions and a lecture series. Members are invited to present thesis proposals at the annual meeting at American University in Washington, DC. Students may also submit writings for publication in the Historian, the organization’s academic journal.

The National Honor Society in philosophy is open to any student who has completed three semesters at an accredited college or university. Nonmajors are eligible. The successful applicant will be in the upper 35% of his or her class, and will have have completed at least three courses in philosophy or religion with an average of 3.4. Applications and details are available from Prof. Peter Weigel, Faculty Chapter Advisor, or Jennifer Sutphin, Student Officer. Membership carries no obligation beyond the application process. Phi Sigma Tau is administered in conjunction with the Philosophy Club at Washington College.
