NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY IN CHEMISTRY AT WASHINGTON COLLEGE

At Washington College, the Gamma Eta Chapter of Gamma Sigma Epsilon, National Honor Society in Chemistry, is to recognize outstanding students demonstrating exceptional ability and interest in the field of chemistry. The goal is to promote scholarship and professionalism and the overall welfare of its members, school, and community, as well as participate in outreach and community service activities.
Gamma Eta insures that the policies and practices pertaining to the membership of our organization do not discriminate based on sex, race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, marital status, handicap, age, and lifestyle.
Candidates for membership in the Chapter will have met the following requirements:
a. Have completed at least 20 hours of chemistry courses at Washington College.
b. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.3 in all chemistry courses and an overall GPA of at least 3.2.
Transfer students shall be eligible for membership after one semester at Washington College in which they have taken at least one chemistry course, if they also meet the requirements for membership.
Outstanding alumni and faculty who have made a positive impact on the Chapter, department, or the field of chemistry may be elected to membership as Honorary Members.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF JOINING THE NSLS AND WHAT DOES MY MEMBERSHIP FEE COVER?
As explained on the membership application, once you have completed the steps to become an official member of the NSLS, your membership items are sent to your local chapter leaders to present to you during the induction ceremony. Psi Chi is the local chapter of the national psychology honor society. Whether you jog a mile a week or are grinding for your first marathon, we love to run and we want you to come with us! The upcoming fall semester threw a monkey wrench into our plans, so unfortunately we are no longer able to do group runs, hold our bi-annual campus fun run, or drive to races...

We may be down but we're not out!

There will still be a club GroupMe page that members are highly encouraged to use to share routes, workouts, goals, or just to chat. Since last semester we have also maintained a Strava club for those who like to track workouts. We have a nice mile-long cross country loop around the practice fields that is a great way to get off the road and squeeze in a couple of hills. We are also working on getting a full 5k (maybe even 8k) cross country loop on the River and Field Campus as well, so stay tuned for that.

The Running Club has a strong core of Alum and veterans who I am sure would be happy to talk to any incoming freshmen about their experiences, goals, workouts, etc. so please DO NOT HESITATE to reach out to any of us.

The Elm is a weekly newspaper published by and for the students of Washington College. Since its start in 1930, The Elm has been a resource for campus news and student opinion. The Elm prints about 24 issues a year, depending on budgetary restraints.
